Radio host Robin Ayers dies aged 44 one year after revealing diagnosis: 'You left a mark in our hearts and you will be missed'

American radio host Robin Ayers, best known for her work on Los Angeles-based radio station KBLA 1580 Talk, has died aged 44.

The mother-of-two died on December 5 (Friday in Australia), as confirmed in a social media statement by her colleague Tavis Smiley. No cause of death was revealed.

Smiley remembered his “beloved colleague” in a message shared on behalf of her family.

“Robin was a bright light. You could see her radiant smile through the radio. We all respected her immense talent, loved her jovial spirit, celebrated her love of family, and honored her faith in God,” he remembered Ayers on X (formerly Twitter).

On behalf of the radio team, Smiley extended his “thoughts and prayers” to Ayers’ family, including her husband Rob and twin 18-year-old daughters Brooklyn and Madison.

“We ask you to join us in praying for the Ayers family as they navigate the difficult days ahead,” he signed off, adding the radio station would share a “special tribute”.

Ayers had worked as radio host and producer for KBLA 1580 Talk since 2022.

She hosted her own weekday show The RA Report with Robin Ayers.

Across her career, the 44-year-old also worked for theJasmineBRAND, EUR Web as an entertainment correspondent, and Afterbuzz TV as a podcast host.

The star was also an author, publishing her first book titled Unspoken Language: Making Your Belief Speak for You in 2016.

While no cause of death has been confirmed, Ayers previously shared on social media she was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma cancer in October 2023.

The radio host’s final heartbreaking social media post had been a video marking a milestone birthday trip to New York City for her 18-year-old twin daughters.

In the video, Ayers visited all the New York City hot spots with her twins and husband.

“NYC with the fam! Celebrating Thanksgiving and the twins’ 18th bday! Whoa 🤯 🔥🔥🔥” she captioned the post.

The video was flooded with tributes from stars.

Entertainment publicist Desirae Lee Brockington wrote she was “shocked and saddened” at news of Ayers’ death.

“My client and I were just with you in LA a few months ago. You were so beautiful and incredible in all you did. Your smile could light up a room and your energy was genuinely full of love. You are missed!!!” she said.

American actor and filmmaker Jason Lee, known for Almost Famous and The Incredibles, thanked the late star “for always being so sweet”. 

“What an example of true authentic. Rest Robin,” he said.

Love Don’t Cost a Thing actress Christina Milian said her “heart is broken”.

“You followed your dreams and really did it from the ground up. We’re all proud of you. You left a mark in our hearts and you will be missed.”
