Blake Lively's sister thanks supportive fans amid media storm

Blake Lively’s sister Robyn Lively has acknowledged the media storm surrounding the star and her controversial new film It Ends With Us.

Blake has come under fire in recent weeks, with many believing her approach to the film’s press tour has been tone deaf and disregards the serious nature of the film’s sensitive subject matter. Others disagree.

Over the weekend, Robyn took to Instagram with a birthday message for her sister on her 37th birthday.

One fan took to the comment section of the birthday post, addressing the negative media attention surrounding Blake and sharing praise for the actress.

“Blake is a lovely human being!!,” the comment read.

“I hope she knows that the multitudes of people who love her is (sic) so much greater than the negative voices. Happy birthday Blake.”

Robyn, who rose to fame as an actress in the ’80s, was quick to respond, simply writing, “thank you for this” with a red heart emoji.

Another fan agreed with the sentiment, commenting: ”Finally a post about Blake I can get behind!”

“The ridiculous media has tried so hard to bring her down, I’m glad she is holding her head high & ignoring the negativity! Happy Birthday Mamacita! Enjoy it, bask in it, take a load off & run wild ladies x” the comment concluded.

Robyn also replied to this comment, writing, “the best thank you so much” along with two heart emojis.

This positive sentiment wasn’t shared by everyone in the comment section, however.

One person argued that Blake’s light-hearted approach to the promotion of It Ends With Us was insensitive to victims of domestic violence – the issue at the heart of the film.

“Speaking for myself, no one is trying to ‘bring her down’, but are trying to make her aware that every action has a consequence,” they wrote.

Blake was first criticised for her approach to the film’s promotion after it premiered last month.

While Lively has made several powerful comments on domestic violence during her press tour, she also seems to have skimmed over it on many occasions, promoting it as a sweet romance. She even instructed fans to “grab your friends, grab your florals, and head out to see it.”

She has also used the film as a chance to cross-promote her brands, launching her new haircare range Blake Brown alongside the film’s release and even launching a range of new flavours for her alcohol brand Betty Buzz in honour of her character in the film, naming the range Betty Blooms.

There has also been wide speculation about a feud between Blake and the film’s co-lead actor and director Justin Baldoni.
